Local 6110 History

In 1978, the Local was called CWA Local 12110, since we belong to District 12.  Mr. Richard Godines was the Local President.  Arely Erazo was elected Treasurer in March 1979.

After Mr. Godines, Mrs. Rosario Flores was elected President.  She lasted one month.  After about a year, Mrs. Alicia Del Rio was elected President.  When she left town to go to Austin, Mr. Gustavo Gomez assumed the position.  In those years, participation was at the lowest, probably because of the members we were losing.  From about 300 in the 1970’s, the Local went down to about 90 members by 1985.  That year, the officers decided it was best to merge with another Local.  The membership approved and Local 12229 (Valley Local) was selected, with Gustavo Gomez as the Vice President and Arely A. Erazo as the Representative.  Mr. Gomez left town and Arely Erazo assumed the position of Vice President.

In 1996, with Mr. Eliseo Torres as the Vice President and Arely Erazo as the Representative, the members decided to separate from the Valley, and in August 13, 1996, the first meeting as CWA Local 6110 was held at the Knights of Columbus at 1720 Houston.  Eliseo Torres was elected President, Gerardo Alonzo as Vice President and Arely Erazo as Secretary/Treasurer.

The meetings continued to be held at the KC Hall until the Local secured a place at 3110 N Arkansas (upstairs).  In April 2000, Mr. Torres was promoted to management and Gerardo Alonzo assumed the Presidency. In May 16, 2000 Mr. Jorge Grace was elected Vice President.

In March 2001, the employees at the Cingular Wireless store were organized and joined the Local.

In October 2000 the Local held their first meeting at their new place at 1808 Commerce Dr.

Mr. Grace left his position in February 2001.  In April, Mr. Juan De La Rosa was elected Vice President.

In October 2005, the Local moved to 2801 E Price Rear (facing Arkansas) with the meetings being held at the Knights of Columbus Hall. August 14, 2007 Gerardo Alonzo was forced to retired and resigned from the Presidency.  After a heated election, Mr. Juan De La Rosa was elected President and he appointed Mr. Ray Villastrigo as Vice President.  In November 28, 2007 Mr. Miguel Carrillo was elected as Vice President.

At the end of 2008, the new officers for 2009 to 2011 were elected as follows: President: Miguel Carrillo; Vice President: Rodolfo Elizondo; Secretary/Treasurer: Arely A. Erazo.
